A lot of making and of experience has gone to bring Mark Sheridan to the top-of-the-tree-position-as-a-comedian which he occupies to-day. He did not tumble into it accidentally. Nobody ever does really tumble into success. Plenty of people would like to think that they could, but they shirk or are ignorant of the trying long years of hard work, beginning at small things and working up bit by bit, that added to innate capacity ultimately bring the successful to any position of eminence that they happen to occupy. So with Mark.

Mark Sheridan Indisposed

I regret to hear that Mr. Mark Sheridan  was unable to appear at the Hippodrome, Brighton, on Monday, owing to indisposition. Here’s wishing “ one of the b’hoys  “ speedy recovery.  Another popular comedian, deputised for Mr. Sheridan on Monday.

( Was it Malcolm Scott who deputised?  Wasn’t MS supposed to be in Burslem with “ GP” at this time?  NEW Brighton maybe ?  Who has made the error? )

The Stage  January 3, 1918

Gateshead - on - Tyne [ Empire ( late Kings’ )  M.D., Richard Thornton; G.M., Harry Esden; R.M., Steve Smith ] - Mark Sheridan and company are presenting a capital holiday programme with a musical travesty “ Gay Paree .” Mark Sheridan appears in the principal role, and causes roars of laughter with cleverly-rendered songs and amusing business. Excellent support is given by the members of a good company, including Dolsey Cariello, Denny Fitzherbert, Oway and O’Dare, Arthur Milton, and W.Sykes.( error with O’Wray?)

The Stage  January 10, 1918

Burslem-Coliseum ( G.M. F. Dudman Bromwich ) .  Mark Sheridan presents “ Gay Paree, “ in which the company, including Sid May, mimic, scores well. O’ Wray and O’Dare are two capital ragtime artists and acrobats. Arthur Milton is good as Fouchet, the spy.  Dolsey Cariello proves an excellent vocalist.  Betty Davenport contributes considerably to the success of the show, as does Doris Delmar, violinist. BOOTS THE CHEMISTS, 30, QUEEN STREET.

Error?   New Brighton confused with Brighton?  Hippo , Porstmouth confused for Hippo, Brighton???? Find out!!!!
